Wedding Videos!?

Two of us here at Runn AMC are looking to start offering another service in addition to regular short film and commercial work and our MadeByDetroit Podcasting Network. We're looking at getting into videography.

Yes, videography. That realm of the filmmaking world most look down on as the filmmaking equivalent of working fast food. Dull, unfulfilling, simple work you do just to pay the bills. That's a general perception that we'd like to change.

We've got some ideas on how to sort of shake up videography, particularly wedding videography and photography. I won't describe the details of what we want to do because, quite frankly, we think we've got some good ideas and if we explain them here then anyone can just start implementing them and we'll miss our own train. However, I can personally say I've never seen any wedding videos done like we have in mind.

First though we need some couples who are planning to get married and are interested in a unique and hopefully refreshing wedding video to show off after the big day. Yes, I realize most folks don't "show off" their wedding video. They just watch it once or twice with family and friends that couldn't attend and then it sits on the back of a shelf until the end of time or divorce depending on the couple. That's one of those things we'd like to change.

Anyways, as I was saying we're looking for 2 or 3 couples who are getting married and are interested in having us do a unique video for them. Since we're just getting started, we're offering to do it for $100. That's a complete deal, from the day we meet you to the day we hand over the final video, everything, for only $100.

And I know I said we're looking to get started but we've got experience under our belts already. I've done a couple of wedding videos for friends and family already so I know what the basic deal is and what most folks are settling for. But as I've said, we've got something new.

So if this is of any interest to you, or you've got someone else in mind that may be interested, then get ahold of us! You can contact us here, or e-mail me personally at mrpesadilla@yahoo.com I'll happily discuss with you what we have in mind in a non-public forum or meet with you personally to chat it over. I should note that due to financial restrictions, this offer is limited to folks living in or near South-Eastern Michigan. Also, I have no samples of previous wedding work online but can provide dvd copies on demand and would bring such samples to any meetings.

So, in short, contact us for a $100 wedding video like no other!

Filmmaker's Networking Event Co-Hosted by Us!

Alright all you indie Michigan filmmaker's, come on down to Royal Oak on Dec. 10th for the first filmmaker's networking event sponsored by us, Silver Bullet Pictures and the i3 Group!

The event will be on Dec. 10th from 7pm to 9pm at the i3 Group's head quarters in Royal Oak. It's our first time doing an event so it'll be pretty laid back and simple. Just a buunch of filmmaker's hanging out, talking shop and hopefully making new contacts. We're aiming this specifically at those notoriously lone wolf types that are considered DIY filmmakers since they tend to be the most creative but the worst at making contacts (like us!). But everyone is welcome! Even folks with no experience and looking to get some.

Also, bring a dvd of your most recent short or trailer of your upcoming feature or your demo reels cause we'll have a projector set up to play whatever throughout the evening. And of course, don't forget business cards and resumes if you've got 'em! It should be a fun and productive time and there will be free refreshments!

So, come hang out with us! Follow the link below for the specific address and be there Dec. 10th!

Some Hot Links For Your Day!

As mentioned in the last blog, I did a brief interview with Mad World Radio at the Fan-O-Rama Comic Con this past weekend. Well the entire recording from that day, including interviews from lots of other great local creators and some kick-ass music can all be found here: http://phoneticbells.com/madworld/~season4/show11.php

Additionally, Mad World Radio's host, Odd (his name not a description though it works that way too), writes a page for the site I Heart Chaos and recently mentioned Suburban Heroes there as well, which can be seen here: http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fiheartchaos.com%2Fcontent%2Fsuburban-heroes-odds-oddities&h=e18750ffb90086226ac449bbb18ebc9a

If that isn't enough, I've been informed that tonight at 9pm Mad World Radio will be podcasting live from their site at www.madworldradio.com as they do every Friday. Tonight they'll actually have some Suburban Heroes references in their Comic Segment and possibly their film critic may have a review of our Season One dvd!! So be sure to get online at 9pm Eastern time to check that out. And then on Dec. 11th, visit the same site at that time to hear some of us from the Runn AMC crew doing a live interview!

So be sure to frequent the sites of our friends at Mad World Radio and I Heart Chaos!

Also, don't forget on Sunday, Nov. 22nd Suburban Heroes Ep. 204 will be playing at the Tromadance New Mexico Film Festival! So if you're in the New Mexico area, go check that out! Info can be found at www.burningparadise.net

So that's that for now.

Sincerely,
          Terence

Fan-O-Rama and Fantasticon Wrap-Ups!

The big weekend has now passed. For those unaware, this past weekend we appeared at not one but two (!) first time comic cons.

On Saturday it was Fan-O-Rama which was put on by the Crofoot and Comic City and was sponsored by Real Detroit Weekly. The Crofoot is a concert venue in downtown Pontiac that occassionally dips it's toes into hosting some non-concert events and it's a really great place to do just about anything. To prove that point that did just about everything at this one day con! There was a fashion show, film screenings, a panel discussion and a live band performance! Plus the obvious vendors for folks to visit.

I spent most of this con running back and forth chatting with folks, tracking down organizers with questions, doing an interview with Mad World Radio (check them out at www.madworldradio.com !) and getting forced onto the stage briefly to introduce Suburban Heroes Ep. 204 which played in along with several other short films (including the visually impressive student film, Avabot). Andy Yeomans and my wife joined me at this con and did most of the table watching. We also had a great time chit-chatting with Tom R. who does all of our SH artwork (dvd cover, t-shirt and button designs). This was the first time he's been able to make it out to join us at one of our appearances and hopefully he can make it to some more in the future. We also caught up with regular convention buddies like Waterfordian indie horror filmmaker Ryan Meade, small press publishers extraordinaires, The Hamtramck Idea Men and Chiller Drive-In creator and host Mac Kelly, who also mc-ed the event. Also at the very end of the day Taryn "The Sock Puppet Master" came by to say "Hi". You can find info on her sock puppet-centric short films at www.atasteforcottonfilms.com so go do that. Overall we had a good time and got to hang out with some cool people. Thanks to all the folks that stopped by our table to chat with us and/or bought our Season 1 dvd!

Sunday was Fantasticon at the Emerald Theatre in Mt. Clemens and I was blown away by the venue! If you've never been there check out our Convention Photos page on here for some pics I took there though they don't do it any justice. It's another venue which normally plays host to concerts but has on previous occassions hosted other events, including other comic cons so they had the routine down.

While they didn't have a plethora of additional goings on like at Fan-O-Rama, they did keep things very much in the comic/sci-fi spirit with hourly Star Wars trivia contests and classic cartoon theme songs playing over the PA along with Godzilla flicks on the 2 large screens over the stage. I ran the table on my own at this one so I didn't get to do nearly as much running around but I still took some breaks to wander the aisles. I got to talk with Mac Kelly and the Hamtramck Idea Men again in addition to chatting up Matt Busch for a bit and a brief conversation with Gary Scott Beatty. Again, thanks to all who stopped by the table to ask about SH and grab one of our flyers or buttons!

Before I go, a brief reminder to anyone in the New Mexico area, Suburban Heroes Episode 204 will be playing at the Tromadance New Mexico Film Festival this month! It'll be in Shorts Block D which plays on Sunday the weekend of the fest so go check it out and if you do, let us know because we won't get to be there and are always curious to know how our screenings go.

Until next time,
                  Terence

New Upcoming Convention Appearances!

Michigan seems to be the place to be this year for comic cons! Two more first time events have popped up this month and I'm happy to say we'll be promoting Suburban Heroes at both of them!

First will be Fan-O-Rama on Nov. 7th. This one is being put on by the Comic City comic book store chain and the Crofoot concert venue. It will be held at the Crofoot in downtown Pontiac and the doors open at 11am. There will be a lot to do there for a one day con so get there early! More info can be found at this link: http://www.thecrofoot.com/events/837.html

The other new con is Fantasticon, which I mentioned in the last blog. It is on Nov. 8th and will be held in the Emerald Theatre in Mt. Clemens. It also starts at 11am and has a full schedule of events too. Info for this one can be found here: http://www.emeraldtheatre.com/theatre.asp  or look up Fantasticon in our top friends here on MySpace.

Both events are only $5 to get into and since they're on opposite side of I-75, folks on both side of the Detroit-Metro area will have an opportunity to come visit us and take advantage of our convention only prices on Suburban Heroes merchandise! So come see us at Fan-O-Rama or Fantasticon in the first weekend of November!!!

Mid-Ohio Con in Retrospect

Well, it's been a couple of days and we've all returned from Columbus, OH where we appeared at the Mid-Ohio Comic Con on Oct. 3rd and 4th to promote Suburban Heroes to a whole new audience. A great time was had by all and we've put some pictures up from the weekend so check those out. Thanks to everyone who stopped at our booth to talk to us and the few extra-cool folks who bought stuff from us!

While there, Mike and I (mostly Mike) did a brief interview with www.comicrelated.com Everybody with an interest in comic should definetly check out that site. It's filled with info, news and podcasts about everything comic related. Plus our interview should be in the podcast section soon. I'll post a link to that once it's up.

Mike and I also visited with Fred Hembeck (famous comic artist, worked for Marvel in '80s, recently released the 912 page book The Fred Hembeck Omnibus featuring all of his independent work though he's most famous for Fred Hembeck Destroys the Marvel Universe) and had him draw sketchs of Capt. Pain and Billy! Those can also be seen in our Convention Pics section, so be sure to check those out.

On the return trip home from the con, Mike and Andy recorded a new Detroit Mic'D podcast where they talk about the con, compare it to Motor City Comic Con and discuss the benefits and drawbacks of promoting your indie film at such an event. You can find that in the Mic'D section on www.madebydetroit.com

As of right now, it appears our next con will be on Nov. 8th at the Fantasticon in Mt. Clemens, MI so mark that one on your calenders and come on out! They're only website is here on myspace so look it up for more info. Admission is only $5 though!

Until next time,

ATTN: Fellow Michigan Filmmakers!

The Michigan State Senate currently has a bill floating around which will basically kill the film community that we've just started to really get going in the past year and a half. Therefore, I think everyone should take a moment to find the e-mail address of whoever represents you and your district in the State Senate and urge them to vote against Senate Bill 404! Here's an article about the bill:

http://www.detnews.com/article/20090828/BIZ/908280350/1001/rss21

Just because Granholm helped create the film incentive doesn't mean she'll have the balls to defend it and veto this bill. According to the article she may actually have an idea even worse than the bill proposes so you should definetly be contacting your individual Senators.

Sin-cerely,

New news!

Howdy!

Mid Summers Expo has come and gone as cons so often do. Thanks to all who came out and said, "Hello"! It was a fun time in a cool (not literally chilled, as anyone there will attest) venue. Check out our Convention Pics album for photos of some of the interesting sites. It was fun as always catching up with vendor friends we generally only get to see at conventions and making new ones, such as Crazy Mark who did an interview with Terence (our editor and Billy Tanner look-a-like) which will someday show on his show and/or online at www.crazymarktv.com . More info about that when it's available.

In other Suburban Heroes news, we've added some new locations in the brick and mortar world where you can pick up a copy of our first dvd, Suburban Heroes Versus Season One! Locally, head on over to Comics And More in Madison Heights on John R. a block or two South of 12 Mile or Liberty Comics in Roseville at 27639 Gratiot Ave. for our East side friends! Both locations now stock our dvd so ask for it by name! For those out of state, specifically in Austin, TX, make your way to I Luv Video on Guadalupe St. or Airport Blvd. to rent our dvd. Those of you on the East coast, like in Baltimore, MD specifically, can now rent it at Video Americain so please do. And of course, dvds are still availble in all the places mentioned in previous posts, so head on out to your local video store and support some indie cinema!

Lastly, in SH news, check out our new Suburban Heroes-centric site, www.suburbanheroes.tv for all the latest in SH everything. Of course, Suburban Heroes info and more is still on our main site, www.runnamc.com as well. You can also find links to our other info outlets there such as our Twitter and Eblogger page and direct links to download Suburban Heroes episodes from I-Tunes. And just because I like mentioning it, check out our IMDB page as well! It's here!

In non-Suburban Heroes news (yes, we do other stuff) we shot a video of a concert for a local band, Skin Deep, a couple of months back and finally have gotten around to editing that footage.

Motor City Comic Con 2009

Well the '09 Motor City Comic Con has come and gone and like every year, seemed to pass too quickly. We all had an awesome time and, of course, look forward to next years Con.

We'd like to thank everybody that stopped by and said, "Hello" and especially thank those that bought a dvd or picked up a flyer! We made some new friends and contacts this year and got to catch up with some folks we hadn't seen since previous conventions. One particular person we got to meet was Terrell Culbert, the mastermind behind Breathe Again Comics and Films and the All Girl Gang War series (both in comic and short film form). He's a fan of Suburban Heroes and you should be a fan of his. www.myspace.com/breatheagain4rell for info. We also got to chit chat with folks from No Fun Films and their current project, After The Bloodrush and tale of vampires and the government agents who hunt them in Hamtramck. This can also be found in both, comic book and feature film form so look them up on here as well and support the local indie folks who are out there bleeding to create some fine art for you. And of course we got to speak Brian Germain and the folks at Dark Elf Design and putting on the Midsummers Expo in July where we will next be appearing. Mark your calenders so ya'll can come down and see us there!

This year we did something different and premiered an episode of Suburban Heroes before it appears online! That episode is 204 and won't be online until after 203 gets completed and posted, so those who couldn't make it have a bit of a wait until they can see our first episode featuring a local semi-celebrity, Tom Sullivan!

In new news, Suburban Heroes is now available on iTunes as a podcast! Download the full season 1 now for your iPod or iPhone or follow the link from www.suburbanheroes.tv or www.runnamc.com Also, if you haven't already, look us up at www.imdb.com !

Lastly, we've recently shot some footage for the next episode of SH (episode 203) and it includes some special fx unlike what's been seen on the show thus far so everyone has that to look forward to. We'll have new pictures and such up here soon so check back often.

Thanks for reading!

Suburban Heroes on iTunes

Suburban Heroes now available on iTunes. You'll be able to search for it in a few days. As soon as episodes are done and approved, more will be uploaded. Season 2 will have 7 episodes just like season 1. Runn AMC is also in the process of developing some comedy skits. Stayed tuned......
